Smelting (Electrolysis)

EGA operates the world's largest aluminium smelter outside China — the Al Taweelah smelter with annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes — alongside the older Jebel Ali smelter. Primary aluminium production via the Hall-Héroult electrolysis process requires specialist equipment. We supply electrolytic reduction cell components and casthouse equipment for smelter operations and expansion projects.

What we supply

• Electrolytic reduction cells (pots) — prebake and Søderberg configurations
• Pot lining materials — cathode blocks, side blocks, freeze lining systems
• Anode systems — prebaked carbon anodes, anode rods, anode setting equipment
• Bus bar and electrical connection systems — flexible connections, compensators
• Pot tending machines (PTMs) — crust breaking, anode changing, metal tapping
• Casthouse equipment — holding furnaces, casting wheels, degassing units
• Aluminium transfer ladles and metal transportation systems

How the project proceeds

1. Define the smelting technology standard (cell type, amperage) and procurement scope
2. Identify equipment suppliers with relevant smelter references; issue RFQ
3. Manage procurement, fabrication inspection, and delivery
4. Support pre-commissioning, pot lining, and smelter startup activities

Why Infinity

Smelting equipment procurement requires engagement with the technology licensor — prebake cell designs are licenced by a small number of technology owners. We source ancillary and casthouse equipment while respecting technology licence boundaries and co-ordinating with the licensor's supply requirements.
